Do Not Buy For Traveling – Horrible Leakage![]()
Simply put, these headphones are a far inferior product to the Bose Quiet Comfort 2 or 3. They blast sound. The leakage (sound emitting from the headphones and annoying your wife) was so horrible it sounded like I had a mini radio attached to my head.
This is clearly an issue with the design of the noise-canceling feature. The small microphones on the side of he headphones that receive sound in order to cancel the waves, were acting like speakers. There was some bad leakage with the noise-canceling turned off, but what you would expect from mid-grade over-the-ear phones. Once I turned on noise-canceling, then it was like turning on a radio on my head.
My wife could clearly hear all the words and lyrics to what I was listening to (Duke Ellington, and then some Red Hot Chili Peppers). My ipod volume was at about 50% when this occurred, and exacerbated at any higher volumes. She could hear all of my NPR podcast I was listening to, while we were watching tv, and I was listening to a news broadcast, not even music!
Needless to say, on an airplane, you would be annoying anyone sitting next to you. I don’t want my seat mate hearing that I’m listening to “On Point” with Tom Ashbrook. I also don’t want to annoy him or her with sound coming out of my headphones.
I had done hours of research on headphones, and had thought the ATH-ANC7 was supposed to be a good compromise to the Bose QC2 / QC3. The leakage, in my opinion, is a deal-breaker. I promptly returned these headphones, and will go ahead and invest in the Bose.
Don’t waste your time with these headphones.
Great High-End (affordable) Headphone![]()
Let me begin by saying that this is my first set of headphones, rather than earbuds, and it is my first purchase of something that is considered by some to be “audiophile” grade. I purchased these headphones because numerous reviews said they were even more accurate than the Bose QuietComfort 3’s….and they were almost 200 dollars cheaper on Amazon. I bought mine for roughly 100 dollars. These produce the best sound I have ever experienced in any audio setup. That includes the 200 dollar speakers I bought a few months ago. The speakers make every piece of music more enjoyable.
Good product great customer service![]()
I bought these headphones a few weeks ago. When they arrived, I installed the battery and turned the power on. I heard a loud howling coming from the left ear cup. I called Audio Technica Customer Service who transfered me to Tech Support. The tech support guy recognized my problem immediately and asked that I fax my bill of sale to him and he would send me a new set of headphones. Within a few days a new set of headphones arrived in a factory fresh box. I was not asked to send the defective ones back. I would give Audio Technica six stars on customer support alone if I could.
I don’t have an airplane flight scheduled in the near future so I tried I tried the headphones near a number of household appliances that made continuous noise (e.g., refrigerator, dishwasher, oil furnace – I wish I had a garbage disposal). The head phones canceled the continuous noise quite effectively.
I also tried the headphones with my Ipod. They sounded very nice but I am no audiophile.
Some complained about the headphones being uncomfortable to wear. I found them to be quiet comfortable but I did not wear them for many hours.
